Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Ethan Ampadu.

It was claimed on Monday that the Magpies were eyeing both Ampadu and Malang Sarr from the Blues.

Today, the Northern Echo have published a report focusing on the Wales international.

Supposedly, Newcastle have now made a loan inquiry.

It is stated the 20-year-old is expected to leave the club in the next couple of weeks.

Ampadu spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

He made 25 appearances across all competitions from the Blades, who struggled as a collective.

Some Toon fans aren’t overly sold on the idea of Ampadu coming in, but this is a player that caught the eye of Antonio Conte only a couple of years ago.

The straight-talking Italian was a fan of the youngster, saying in January 2018 (ESPN): “This [physical and tactical quality] is unusual for a player who is only 17 years old. But that shows, at the same time, that age is not important.

“The most important thing is that you show, when I give you the chance to play, you repay me with a good performance. We are talking about a really good prospect for Chelsea, for the present and the future.”

Prior to those comments, Conte also praised Ampadu’s ‘great maturity’ and called him ‘very humble’ (via ESPN).

Ampadu could be a good addition

Ampadu definitely has big potential.

Clearly, there is something about him for Conte – one of the best club coaches in the game – to speak about him as he did.

It seems a number of fans would actually prefer Sarr.

But as another report drops about Ampadu potentially coming in on loan, fans should welcome any move.

Ampadu can also play as a holding midfielder, which is an added bonus.
