Karl Darlow is still likely to leave Newcastle United this summer despite the fact that two clubs have pulled out of the race for his signature due to price.

Hull City‘s manager Liam Rosenior admitted recently that Karl Darlow was unlikely to rejoin the Tigers this summer as Newcastle‘s asking price was too high.

Middlesbrough also felt the same way and have also withdrawn their name from consideration according to The Northern Echo.

Bournemouth and Leeds could be left to battle it out for Darlow

That still leaves Bournemouth and Leeds United to battle it out for the 32-year-old Callum Wilson called ‘unbelievable‘. Blackburn have also been said to be keen on Darlow but their interest has gone quiet too.

Last night it was confirmed that the 49ers takeover of Leeds United had been approved so they could be about to hit the transfer market hard so Newcastle could expect a solid bid for Darlow soon.

That in turn could force Bournemouth to act so it may not be long before Darlow’s future becomes clearer, but one thing is for certain and that’s right now, Newcastle have a price in mind for Darlow and they’re not budging.

Darlow is still useful to Newcastle in this pre-season thanks to Pope’s injury

It’s admirable to see Newcastle are just as steadfast in their outgoing transfer activity as they are on incoming, but at a certain point they’re going to have to be more flexible in order to clear some room on the wage bill and to get around the dreaded FFP.

With Nick Pope‘s hand injury keeping him out of the USA tour, Karl Darlow may still be needed with Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius the only other fit ‘keepers. Darlow did play the first half of the match against Gateshead before making way for Karius, so he still has a part to play.

While it looks like Darlow is set to depart Newcastle it may not be until later in the window.
