Karl Darlow looks to be on his way out of Newcastle United but it seems like he won’t be returning to Hull City where he spent six months on loan.

The Newcastle goalkeeper looks to be on his way to pastures new this summer, but as yet the 32-year-old is unclear where his future lies.

Hull City were the beneficiaries of Karl Darlow‘s uncertain future when they loaned him from Newcastle for the second half of last season. However, as successful as that loan was it now doesn’t look like Darlow will be a Tiger next season.

Hull have been priced out of a move for Karl Darlow

Liam Rosenior, manager of Hull, recently said in an interview on Hull Live: “I don’t think Karl is someone that will be joining us.

“Karl is someone who I loved working with, he’s an outstanding goalkeeper but the price that Newcastle are speaking about is something we can’t do this summer.

“I’m disappointed, but that’s football. My job is to give this football club the best squad possible. Can we be successful without Karl Darlow?

“One hundred per cent, so we move on.”

Darlow still has plenty of options as his Newcastle exit looms

That leaves Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Leeds still in the race for Darlow with no clear winner amongst them.

Bournemouth may feel they have the edge being able to offer Premier League football, but the other three are top Championship sides and could convince Darlow that he could lead them to promotion.

Darlow was between the sticks in the first half of Newcastle’s pre-season win over Gateshead on Saturday and it was during that half that Gateshead scored their two goals. Hardly the best argument to convince Eddie Howe to let him stay. Of course, it’s just pre-season so nothing really matters too much in those games.

It’s an interesting story that is constantly developing, but there’s a huge feeling around Newcastle that they need to start being more proactive when it comes to moving players on. That wage bill isn’t going to shrink itself.
