Newcastle United have a new rival in the race to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal.
For a long time, it looked like Tierney was destined to swap the Emirates Stadium for St James’ Park. Eddie Howe wanted a left-back, and the Scot was identified as the club’s top target.
It was even claimed that he was expected to make the move to Tyneside, much to the delight of Toon fans who were eager to see Tierney in black and white.
However, the new Premier League season is less than a week away and Tierney, who has previously been described as a ‘warrior‘, is no closer to becoming a Newcastle United player.
Talk of him leaving North London for the North East has gone quiet, and now it appears that a new suitor has entered the race to secure his signature.

Real Sociedad want Kieran Tierney
According to the Telegraph, Real Sociedad are interested in signing Tierney on loan for the 2023/24 season.
The report states that the La Liga side are hoping to agree a deal with Arsenal, as they prepare to take part in this season’s Champions League – alongside Newcastle and the Gunners.
The Telegraph add that Newcastle are ‘long-term admirers’ of Tierney, while it is unclear whether or not Mikel Arteta’s side would sanction a loan exit.
That could be the decisive factor here, as a loan much is much less appealing than a permanent deal. If it was permanent, you have to imagine Arsenal would be keen, as it would mean Tierney was not joining a Premier League rival.

It seems quite clear that the £25million man needs a move away, and his desire to leave might increase once the new season begins and he is nowhere near the starting XI.
Whether or not that would lead to Newcastle making a move remains to be seen, with the club taking stock following the arrival of Tino Livramento.
