Newcastle United want to make Kieran Tierney their new left-back for next season, but that is looking more and more unlikely as the weeks go by.
For a long time, it looked all but certain that the Scot was going to swap Arsenal for Newcastle. It was reported that this deal was expected to happen, with the Magpies confident about bringing him to St James’ Park.
However, the positive noises have got a lot quieter as of late. The Gunners reportedly want £30million for Tierney, which Newcastle feel is too much.
That is an understandable stance given how early it is in the transfer window, as Eddie Howe and co try to work out what is the best way to use the club’s summer transfer budget.
Further down the line, Newcastle might be more willing to pay £30million for Tierney – which doesn’t seem too outlandish a price given he cost £25million in 2019 and still has a long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium.

However, even if the Toon recruitment team do change their mind, the worry now could be that Tierney has too.
Kieran Tierney could stay at Arsenal
According to Football Transfers, Tierney has held talks about staying at Arsenal this summer. The report states that the 26-year-old ‘warrior‘ has spoken to Mikel Arteta, who wants the Scotland international to remain in North London.
They state that talks are ‘progressing well’, and that Tierney has been given assurances that he will play a lot more football in the 2023/24 campaign. He lost his place in the side to Oleksandr Zinchenko last season, which has led to talk of a move to Tyneside.

But with speculation that Tierney could be back in the picture, that could lead to him staying put. That would be a blow for Newcastle, who have identified him as their top left-back target. He looks like a great fit, and someone who could thrive at St James’ Park under Howe’s management.
However, with talks of staying put and a lofty price tag, it currently looks like Newcastle are going to need to take their search for a left-back elsewhere.
Luckily, the Magpies do appear to have alternatives on their radar, such as Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco.
