It looks like Newcastle United may not be content with taking just one player off Inter Milan’s hands this summer with the Magpies looking at Nicolo Barella and Federico Dimarco.
As the Newcastle-related news is dominated by the idea of a £50million swoop for Nicolo Barella, the Magpies could also be lining up a bid for his club and international teammate, Federico Dimarco according to The Daily Mail who claim Newcastle have been scouting him along with Sandro Tonali.
Dimarco plays left-back for Inter and Italy having eight international caps to his name. The 25-year-old made 50 appearances for Inter last season in all competitions popping up with 10 assists and six goals, which is a phenomenal return for a left-back.
Dimarco has many admirers in the Premier League
Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Dimarco who has been called ‘extraordinary‘ by Nicola Berti. Manchester City were said to be interested in Dimarco back in March when Newcastle were also first linked along with Arsenal and West Ham.
He’s clearly got a lot of eyes on him and with those stats from last season behind him it’s not hard to see why. Looking at his stats on FBref it’s clear to see his strengths and weaknesses. For attacking plays he’s in the top five percent for pretty much every attacking metric when compared to other players in his position across Europe’s top five leagues.

However, when it comes to defensive metrics such as tackling and interceptions, he’s quite far behind his peers.
That might not be too much of an issue for Newcastle who are looking for an attacking left-back this summer, and there aren’t many better than Dimarco in that respect. We still have Dan Burn and Matt Targett if Eddie Howe needs to go with a more defensive full-back for a specific game. It can only be a good thing to have those options.
Newcastle could still prefer a move for Kieran Tierney over Dimarco
Kieran Tierney is probably still Howe’s first-choice for that position as he’s more of an all-round option and has Premier League experience in his favour too.

I’d be happy with either option. Dimarco would be so exciting going forward but may leave us exposed at the back, where as Tierney probably wouldn’t pick up as many goal contributions but would be more adept at breaking up any counter-attacks.
