Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell was embarrassed over the summer as he failed to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
Marc Guehi was Eddie Howe’s top target, with the Magpies keen to bring in a right-sided centre-back.
Paul Mitchell had been confident about agreeing a deal, but that confidence was misplaced. Newcastle United failed to sign Marc Guehi, with the Magpies priced out of a deal.
After discovering on the penultimate day of the transfer window that Palace wanted £75million for the 24-year-old, Newcastle decided to walk away.
Since then, it has been suggested that Newcastle will reignite their interest in Guehi when the January transfer window opens.

The latest on Newcastle’s interest in Marc Guehi ahead of January
And it looks like that could be the case, with the Daily Mail providing an interesting update on the Magpies’ stance regarding the England international.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United will likely make a fresh move for Guehi when the January transfer window opens.
The Daily Mail add that an early approach will be required, as that will give Crystal Palace more time to bring in a replacement.
Interestingly, the Daily Mail suggest that an offer of around £50million might be enough to land Guehi in January.
Chance for redemption for Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell
It has been a tough start to life on Tyneside for Paul Mitchell. He did not make any major signings during his first summer transfer window, and what followed was an alleged ‘civil war’ between him and Eddie Howe.
It has been quite messy, but it has been reported that Howe and Mitchell have now hold fresh talks amid hope that their relationship at St James’ Park will work out.
The January transfer window will be the next test, and Mitchell will be keen for redemption when it comes to Guehi.
The Daily Mail note that Mitchell was furious about the negotiations with Steve Parish, while they add that the Crystal Palace chief was happy to string the Magpies along after they tried and failed to poach Dougie Freedman from Selhurst Park.
It all culminated in a rather embarrassing situation for Mitchell, who may now have a fresh chance to sign Guehi – potentially at a lower price.
That would represent good business, and Mitchell will no doubt believe he will have had the last laugh if that is how things play out.
