It’s transfer deadline day and a lot could still happen at Newcastle United before the window closes.

The trials and tribulations of the summer will finally come to an end for Newcastle United on Monday, when the transfer window closes at the earlier-than-usual time of 7pm.

It’s been a slog of a summer for Newcastle, one in which Eddie Howe has seen the club miss out on top target after top target and the Alexander Isak saga has thrown everything into chaos.

However, there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel and the mood at St. James’ Park could be even happier by the time the deadline comes and goes.

Newcastle have recruited strongly with major additions of Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey and Nick Woltemade, and more players could yet arrive.

Here are the signings Newcastle could still make on deadline day and those who could still depart, including Isak.

Potential Newcastle United deadline day signings

Despite already spending over £200m this summer, Newcastle still have plenty of room within PSR to spend a lot more, even without selling Isak.

Howe made it clear on Friday that the club were still looking to strengthen his squad and here is who could still arrive on deadline day.

Yoane Wissa – Brentford

The most likely new signing is surely Yoane Wissa, whom Newcastle have targeted for most of the summer.

Wissa is so desperate for the transfer that he is, in an Isak-esque move, refusing to play for Brentford in hopes of forcing it through.

Brentford don’t want to sell their star striker after losing so much talent and manager Thomas Frank already, and they have so far failed in an attempt to sign a replacement after having a bid rejected for Borussia Dortmund’s Max Beier.

The nimble frontman grabbed 20 goals last season and would be the perfect complement to Woltemade, significantly improving Newcastle’s attacking options for the rest of the campaign.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – Wolves

If not Wissa, then Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen is the other possible striker Newcastle could bring in before the window closes.

This deal appears tougher to pull off, though, as Wolves really don’t want to sell a player they only signed permanently themselves this summer, with little chance of getting a good enough replacement.

Though younger with more potential than Wissa, Strand Larsen would cost significantly more, does not have as much Premier League experience and will likely not be as content with a squad role as Wissa would be.

Strand Larsen looks to be a quality striker but it’s hard to see Newcastle meeting Wolves’ £60m demands after paying £69m for Woltemade.

Davide Frattesi – Inter

If Newcastle fans weren’t excited enough as they closed in on Woltemade, the potential of signing Davide Frattesi sent them to the moon.

Newcastle are keen on the talented Italian midfielder, with it being reported that Newcastle have spoken with Inter about the possibility of signing Frattesi on loan.

However, Inter are reportedly insisting that a £35m option to buy clause is inserted in the deal.

Kobbie Mainoo – Manchester United

Another midfielder Newcastle have been linked with is Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo, who scored the winner in the 2024 FA Cup final, has fallen out of favour with manager Ruben Amorim and could leave Old Trafford before the window closes.

Many clubs have been touted with an interest and Newcastle fans want the club to sign Mainoo.

The move would make sense and it’s understood Newcastle are being kept in the loop about Mainoo’s future.

11 players who could still leave Newcastle United on Deadline Day

The most obvious player who could still leave St. James’ Park by 7pm is Alexander Isak.

Woltemade’s arrival and the hopeful signing of Wissa or Strand Larsen would give Newcastle enough firepower to reluctantly allow the Swede to leave.

But that still depends on how much Liverpool offer. Newcastle have not budged from their £150m demand yet, but may finally concede ground just to bring the sorry saga to a close.

Should Newcastle also bring in another midfielder, that might leave room for a departure in the middle of the park. Joe Willock may attract interest after slipping down the pecking order, or young Lewis Miley could leave on loan.

The door also hasn’t been closed on William Osula heading out for game time, too, despite his goal against Liverpool.

There are unlikely to be any other first-team departures other than that, with any other exits likely to be youngsters heading out on loan.

Possible exits include: Harrison Ashby, Max Thompson, Alex Murphy, Travis Hernes, Sean Neave, Trevan Sanusi and Leo Shahar.
