Newcastle United strengthened what was already a strong midfield unit this summer by signing Jacob Ramsey but, such is the insatiable nature of the transfer window, supporters want more additions.
Indeed, Newcastle United boast some incredible midfield options. Ramsey joins the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton at St James’ Park.
There is huge excitement about Lewis Miley too, while Joe Willock has previously been a key player under Eddie Howe.
There are six central midfielders in the Newcastle United squad, but that does not mean fans don’t see room for another.
Following recent transfer reports, Newcastle fans are calling for the club to move for Manchester United man Kobbie Mainoo.

Newcastle United fans call for club to sign Kobbie Mainoo
According to talkSPORT, Mainoo is considering leaving Old Trafford.
The England international, who is only under contract with his boyhood club until 2027, has not started either of the Premier League games under Ruben Amorim this season.
After the news broke, Newcastle fans on X urged Eddie Howe into action. The Newcastle United manager has brought so many players on during his time on Tyneside, and many supporters seem to feel as if he could do something similar with the 20-year-old.
“I’d love him in, Howe would make him amazing”, said one fan.
Another added: “I’ve been desperate for us to show an interest and get Mainoo here. We have a transfer policy of striking whilst opportunities arise even if we have players in that position, like we did with [Tino] Livramento.”
“Would be a great addition to play in rotation to Bruno [Guimaraes],” said another.
How Kobbie Mainoo compares with Joe Willock
Willock has been a key player for Newcastle at times but has certainly struggled for form and fitness for a while now.
Obviously, he will hope that his form returns if and when he gets a regular run in the team. That, however, does not look particularly forthcoming – particularly given the addition of Ramsey.
While both Mainoo and Willock suffered with injuries last season, they did play a sizeable number of games.
| 2024/25 Premier League statistics | Kobbie Mainoo | Joe Willock |
| Games | 25 | 32 |
| Minutes played | 1657 | 1077 |
| Goals | 0 | 0 |
| Assists | 0 | 2 |
| Tackles/90 | 1.8 | 0.9 |
| Interceptions/90 | 0.8 | 0.2 |
| Shots/90 | 0.6 | 0.6 |
| Key passes/90 | 0.6 | 0.7 |
Though Willock produced more in the way of assists, Mainoo beat him in some key metrics as are listed above.
Able to operate as both a defensive midfielder and in a more attacking role, it’s easy to see why some Toon fans would like to sign Mainoo.
