Former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll is in talks over a deadline day move to Reading.
Reading have already picked up a former Premier League free agent recently in Scott Dann.
And now they have their sights on Carroll, following his exit from the north east, according to transfer expert Pete O’Rourke.
There doesn’t seem to be much prospect of significant incomings at St James’ Park today.
And Carroll is one of a host of players who have departed as the squad goes into this season no stronger than it ended the last.
Carroll’s fitness is always the biggest question mark over him and one reason why a Premier League move hasn’t materialised.
He’ll be looking to play more regularly in the Championship, although his wages would probably need to be cut.
Danny Drinkwater is another former Premier League player at Reading, looking to get his career back on track.
