Mason Mount’s contract talks are still on hold at Chelsea causing the rumour mill to spin out of control. Now Tony Cascarino has said that Mount should consider joining Newcastle United.
The ball is still very much in Chelsea’s court with Mason Mount being a boyhood Blue he’s likely to want to stay at Stamford Bridge. That’s not stopped speculation that he may leave though, with Liverpool and Newcastle poised to scoop him up should talks break down, according to TalkSPORT.
Now former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino has suggested that Mount would fit really well into Newcastles style of play, telling TalkSPORT: “If you were Newcastle, would you want to get a player like him? If you want to become more of a Champions League team, I think Mason Mount would fit really well into the way Newcastle play.
“At the end of the season I think Newcastle could get Wilf [Zaha] on the left and Mount [in the middle] if they really wanted to.”
Mount alongside Bruno? Yes please
Newcastle are said to be keeping a close eye on the Mount situation as the England man is unhappy with the terms being offered by Chelsea, specifically the length of the contract, according to Fabrizio Romano. His current deal is due to expire next summer.

Even with just a year left to run on his contract, Mount could still bring in a sizeable fee should Chelsea be willing to listen to offers. Given that he’s an academy product, any fee Chelsea receive will be seen as pure profit.
Liverpool will be tough competition for his signature
At just 24, Mount still has his best years ahead of him and is the perfect type of player for Newcastle’s engine room. Described by Stan Collymore as “energetic“, Mount’s running and creativity would be the perfect compliment to Bruno Guimaraes’ style of play and would definitely help Newcastle unlock opposition defences – something that they’ve really struggled with this season.
Add in the fact that he’s got plenty of European experience and is an established England international and it makes sense that Newcastle go out of their way to make this one happen. Whether they can convince Mount to choose Newcastle over Liverpool will be the big issue given that the Reds feel they’re better placed to offer him what he wants.
This could be another one of those deals that’s come up too soon into the PIF project for Newcastle to take advantage.
