Alan Shearer and Micah Richards were not on the same page after the Newcastle United legend made a tremendous claim about one player.
The Magpies secured an important 2-0 win against Chelsea at St James’ Park on Sunday to move them within touching distance of Champions League qualification.
Bruno Guimaraes motivated his Newcastle United teammates with a passionate speech ahead of the game, but the noisy crowd inside the ground was more than enough motivation to secure the three points.
Eddie Howe praised Emil Krafth for his performance against Chelsea. The defender has had a limited role in Newcastle’s first team this season but put in a calm performance to help the Magpies keep another clean sheet at home.
While Howe hails the unsung heroes, Alan Shearer has made a big claim about one Newcastle player who has been sensational all season, but Micah Richards and Gary Lineker have their reservations.

Alan Shearer makes Jacob Murphy Team of the Season claim
Jacob Murphy is enjoying his best season since joining the Magpies in 2017, scoring eight goals and bagging 12 assists in the Premier League.
The 30-year-old added to his tally of attacking returns with a clever assist for Sandro Tonali’s goal less than two minutes into the game. Murphy played as a wing-back at the start of the game as Howe opted to play with a 3-4-3 formation until he switched things up in the second half.
Shearer could not contain his excitement about Murphy in the latest episode of the Rest is Football, where he made comments on whether Murphy should be included in the Premier League’s Team of the Season.
“You won’t want to go to sleep talking about Jacob Murphy because of how outstanding he has been,” an excited Shearer said.
“There’s no doubt, candidate for Team of the Season. Is anyone going to argue about that?”
Lineker responded with: “He plays in the same position as Salah, though.”
In disbelief, Shearer said: “Hang on, you just mentioned all the assists and everything else. Tell me who’s been better than him other than Mo Salah.”
Richards then chimed in by saying: “He plays on the right,” which prompted Shearer to say: “Well we’ll move him, we’ll find a position for him!”
Getting more agitated, Richards said: “That’s not how it works, Alan!”
Shearer then fully lost it with Richards, and responded with: “Well it is in my f—— team!”
The trio all laughed at the situation, but Shearer made a great point about Murphy’s inclusion in the Premier League’s Team of the Season.

Alan Shearer sends Joelinton social media message after Newcastle United win
Midfielder Joelinton is set to miss the rest of the 2024/25 campaign after suffering from a knee injury. The Brazilian had been playing while wounded with his knee heavily bandaged, but it got too much for him in the end.
While he may not be able to help on the pitch, Joelinton is still attending games to cheer on his teammates from the stands.
On Sunday, the 28-year-old was pictured wearing a retro Newcastle shirt in the stands, which read Shearer 9 on the back. Fans were buzzing to see Joelinton wear the shirt, but Shearer was undoubtedly the most pleased.
Posting the picture on his Instagram story, Shearer said: “Gwan on Big Joe” with a black and white heart emoji.
