Dominic Calvert-Lewin has finally agreed to terms with a Premier League side after talks with Newcastle United this summer.

The 28-year-old has been on Eddie Howe’s radar for a number of years, but a deal was never able to materialise even after serious talks in 2024.

Newcastle United were hoping to strike a deal with Everton for Dominic Calvert-Lewin last year, while their PSR concerns were a major problem. However, the deal fell through after Calvert-Lewin demanded high wages at Newcastle.

A year later, Calvert-Lewin left Everton upon the expiry of his contract after a rather disappointing year. The striker scored just three Premier League goals last season and lost his place in the starting XI after the arrival of David Moyes.

Newcastle were interested in Calvert-Lewin alongside several other clubs in the Premier League, but the England international has finally agreed a deal with another Premier League side after months of speculation.

Leeds United reach agreement with Dominic Calvert-Lewin after Newcastle United talks

Calvert-Lewin has been linked with moves to clubs all over the world, but he has decided to stay in England.

According to David Ornstein, Leeds United have reached an agreement in principle for Calvert-Lewin, and he is due at their training ground for a medical.

Reports had surfaced earlier this summer that Newcastle had engaged in talks with Calvert-Lewin, but the two parties could not come to an agreement, and he is instead heading to the newly-promoted Premier League side.

Calvert-Lewin was once compared to Arsenal’s new star striker Viktor Gyokores by former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, though he highlighted his lack of consistency.

It has also been confirmed that the former Everton man rejected a move to Newcastle’s bitter rivals Sunderland for Leeds.

With his move close to being completed, Calvert-Lewin could make his debut against Newcastle when they travel to Elland Road on August 30.

Newcastle United will not be too disheartened after missing out on Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin will be joining Sean Longstaff at Leeds after the Newcastle academy graduate completed a £15million move in July.

While it is true that Newcastle have missed out on yet another player due to Calvert-Lewin’s decision, the club’s recruitment team may not be feeling too bad about it.

Calvert-Lewin has not had a good season in the Premier League since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, having failed to find form while being managed by the likes of Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche.

Some may argue that Howe could have worked his magic on the striker, but some tasks are best left to other people, especially with Champions League football on the horizon.

Additionally, Newcastle are close to signing Yoane Wissa from Brentford, who is set to be the replacement for Callum Wilson. There is also minor hope that Alexander Isak will stay on Tyneside and will be reintegrated into the first-team picture later in the campaign.
