Newcastle United are looking for elite signings ahead of next season, and may have found one in Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Hungary international is on Newcastle‘s radar going into the summer transfer window, who were reported to be looking at the 22-year-old earlier this year.

There have since been claims that Toon scouts have travelled to Germany to watch him play for RB Leipzig, and now a new report has provided more details on Newcastle’s interest.

Newcastle make Dominik Szoboszlai their top target

According to Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport, Eddie Howe wants to sign Szoboszlai this summer. They state that he is now Newcastle’s top transfer target.

The report adds that the Toon owners are prepared to make a huge financial offer for the playmaker, as they look to boost the Newcastle squad ahead of potentially returning to the Champions League.

The Magpies are reportedly prepared to offer Szoboszlai a deal worth £10million-a-year, which is equivalent to around £190,000-a-week.

That is a huge weekly figure, and one that would make him Newcastle’s best paid player ever. Kieran Trippier is the current top earner, and he takes home around £120,000-a-week. It has also been reported that Bruno Guimaraes could soon earn more than that, with the club preparing to offer him a new and improved contract.

‘Special’ Szoboszlai would be a great signing for the Magpies

Newcastle are looking to sign a player who can offer more creativity in attack. Howe wants someone who can provide something a little bit different to what they have already got.

That is why James Maddison is a target, and Szoboszlai, who has seven goals and 13 assists this season, falls into the same category. He would be an excellent alternative to the Leicester City midfielder.

Szoboszlai is versatile, which is a quality that Howe loves. Throughout this season for Leipzig he has played on the right and left of attack, as a centre-midfielder and in attacking midfield closer to the striker.

He is a player who has been described as ‘special‘ by his former manager Jesse Marsch, and that certainly does not appear to be an exaggeration.

The way Szoboszlai manipulates the ball is incredible. He moves it with such speed and precision, which allows him to create so many chances for his teammates. His teammates rarely have much to do when he picks them out, such is the quality of his passing.

The playmaker has an excellent understanding with Christopher Nkunku, which is something he could replicate on Tyneside with Alexander Isak. That is an incredibly exciting prospect, and one that will hopefully become a reality this summer.
