Newcastle United are now interested in signing former Barcelona talent Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo.
The January transfer window is moving into focus, and Newcastle United may need new recruits.
Newcastle were beaten 3-1 at Brentford on Sunday, as Eddie Howe suffered yet another away defeat.
The Magpies sit 14th in the Premier League table, and while Champions League and Carabao Cup results have been strong, this league form cannot continue.
Howe spent handsomely over the summer, but proven Premier League players have struggled to make an impact.

Newcastle United now interested in signing Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza
Howe may look for further additions in January, with a new rumour now emerging in Spain.
AS report that Newcastle are interested in signing defender Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo.
It’s stated that Aston Villa, West Ham United, Como, Atalanta, AC Milan and Marseille all fancy signing Mingueza.
Newcastle are far from alone in the race for Mingueza, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
| Games played | Goals | Assists | |
| 2022-23 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| 2023-24 | 38 | 2 | 2 |
| 2024-25 | 34 | 4 | 6 |
| 2025-26 (so far) | 11 | 1 | 2 |
The 26-year-old is currently inclined to weigh up the offers from elsewhere over renewing his deal at Celta Vigo.
Celta now risk losing Mingueza for free, having turned down offers of around €14million (£12.5million) over the summer.
Barcelona would have taken 50% of any fee for Mingueza, but it now looks like Celta will lose him for absolutely nothing.
Newcastle could explore a cut-price deal in January, in the hope of tempting Celta to take a knockdown fee.
Oscar Mingueza could be the perfect addition for Newcastle United
Mingueza was schooled at Barcelona and has picked up four caps for Spain on the international stage.
One of the main attractions to signing Mingueza is his versatility.
Mingueza operates as a right-back for Celta Vigo, but has also played as a centre-back and left-back.
That flexibility would be welcomed at Newcastle, especially amid injury problems this season.
Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have both suffered injury problems, severely hampering the full-back depth.
Bringing in a defender like Mingueza to offer depth across the back four would be a major boost, especially as he would be a bargain addition.
Competition for Mingueza is strong, and he may see out his deal to explore free agent offers, but he certainly ticks the boxes for Newcastle.
