Newcastle United have a new top transfer target after moving closer to a deal for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

Business has officially picked up on Tyneside after a rather quiet month. Eddie Howe is eager to add more quality to his Newcastle United side after qualifying for the Champions League next season.

The Magpies have been quiet in the previous three transfer windows, but the Newcastle boss and his recruitment team are keen to make up for the deals that got away from them. It has been reported that Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga. The winger is coming off the back of a brilliant Premier League season and is reportedly open to the move.

Reports suggest Aston Villa are interested in Elanga, but the winger is excited about the possibility of joining Newcastle and playing with Alexander Isak, his fellow international teammate.

With a deal for Elanga nearing its completion, Newcastle now have a new top target in Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini. The 21-year-old struggled with injuries last season, but has still caught Howe’s eye as a possible long-term replacement for Dan Burn and Fabian Schar.

As Newcastle move to their next target, fans have shared their views on the move on social media.

Newcastle United fans beg Eddie Howe to sign Giorgio Scalvini

Newcastle value Scalvini at around £30m, a good fee considering his age, potential and recent injury problems. However, it is believed that Atalanta are looking for around £43m from Newcastle for Scalvini.

It is unknown whether the Magpies will go that high for him, but an official bid is yet to be lodged.

Despite that, Newcastle fans are getting very excited and have shared it on the social media platform X.

“Oh my god more Italians please,” said one Newcastle fan, while another added: “That’s a decent price for Scalvini, Let’s go.”

This fan believes Scalvini will cost nearer to his £43m price tag, saying: “£30m seems incredibly cheap. I would have thought he’d be closer to £50m.”

“Get it done!!” said this excited Newcastle fan.

Another Newcastle fan added: “I really hope we do manage to pull this off! What a baller! Top, top talent!”

Finally, this fan said: “This would be unreal if we pulled this off.”

Scalvini had an injury-disrupted 2024/25 campaign with Atalanta. The defender was only able to make eight Serie A appearances due to nasty ACL and shoulder injuries.

Last season is not the first time he has spent time on the sidelines with injury; however, the 21-year-old has struggled with over a dozen minor knocks and problems, which kept him out of games at times.

Scalvini spent the longest time out with his latest shoulder injury. The defender missed Atalanta’s final 20 games of the season due to it, and may not even be fully recovered yet.

Newcastle will hope that James Bunce, their performance director, can give him the right plans to keep himself fit. Fans have already had to deal with Sven Botman’s injuries, and they will hope that this is not the same case if Scalvini does become a Newcastle player.
