Two Newcastle United loans have now been terminated since the January transfer window opened.
The first saw Antonio Cordero leave KVC Westerlo after a disastrous spell in Belgium.
The Magpies acted fast to find him a new club, with Cordero already making his Cadiz debut after heading to the second tier of Spanish football.
Now a second Newcastle United player has had their loan spell cut short, with Joe White suddenly back on Tyneside.
Our first CONFIRMED deal of 2026! How badly does our loan system need a revamp, by the way?! 😡
Joe White returns to Newcastle United
The 23-year-old midfielder joined Leyton Orient during the summer transfer window, moving to the League One club on a season-long loan.
However, White has now returned to Newcastle United after his loan spell with the O’s was terminated.
In a statement on Leyton Orient’s website, they wrote: “Leyton Orient can confirm that it has ended the loan deals of Joe White and Tayo Adaramola with immediate effect.
“The duo joined the O’s from Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, respectively, in the summer. White made six appearances in Orient colours during the first half of the 2025/26 campaign, while Adaramola turned out on 19 occasions.
“The club would like to thank both players for their efforts and wish them all the best in their future careers.”

That statement would suggest it was Leyton Orient’s decision for White to leave, with Newcastle United writing on their official website: “Newcastle United midfielder Joe White has returned to the club following a loan spell with Leyton Orient.
“The 23-year-old, who made his Premier League debut for the Magpies in 2024, featured six times in all competitions for the League One side.”
Injuries limited White to just six appearances for Leyton Orient, only two of which were starts.
Newcastle United must act fast for Joe White
White’s situation at Newcastle United is very different to Cordero’s. The latter is just 19-years-old, and is expected to have a bright future on Tyneside.
Newcastle expect Cordero to improve in Spain, having made the decision to change his club midway through the season.
You can sign ONE defender in January, who are you taking? ✍️
In contrast, White is likely coming to the end of his Newcastle United career. White’s Newcastle contract expires in the summer, with an extension not on the cards.
While he has played in the Premier League for the Magpies in the past, he is not going to be afforded that luxury again.
Therefore, sporting director Ross Wilson must act quickly to find White a new club, whether that is on loan or permanent.
The sooner he goes, the better, as White is now in a race against time to prove himself and earn a contract. He would have hoped to earn one at Leyton Orient, but his time there has been cut short.
