Sandro Tonali’s move to Newcastle United is making headlines in Europe.
The AC Milan midfielder is widely expected to join Newcastle soon after the two clubs struck a deal for the Italian international.
Journalists in Milan have already spoken about how different life will be without the 23-year-old, such is his standing with the Serie A giants.

The signing of an Italian title winner, one who reached the Champions League semi-finals last season and a key figure in one of Europe’s most traditional powerhouses is undoubtedly a statement for Newcastle.
In fact, it’s such a big move that Italy manager Roberto Mancini has been speaking about it.
Roberto Mancini responds to Sandro Tonali’s move to Newcastle
Mancini, a man well-versed in all things Italian football, was asked about the deal to take Tonali to Newcastle from Milan.
The former Manchester City manager predicted joining Newcastle would be “useful” for the midfielder but was keen to stress it must indicate Serie A have “some problems” when it comes to keeping such big name talents.
“On the one hand there is a bit of regret if a good young player like Tonali leaves Italy means that there are some problems,” he told Sky Sport Italia (via Calciomercato).
“On a technical level, however, playing the Premier League [for] Tonali will be useful, it’s good for him.”

Tonali to Newcastle might help Italy
While it might be jarring to see a powerhouse like Milan lose Tonali to a team who cannot match their trophy haul, things are different now.
Even the most ardent Newcastle fan would surely admit Milan carry much more weight historically given their achievements.
That, however, matters little in the modern age.
Newcastle beat Milan to the signing of Sven Botman last summer, indicating of the shifting power dynamics. They have the money and the ambition to attract such in-demand names, to the arrival of Tonali feels like something of a natural progression.
For Italy, it might help.
One of the most successful nations in football history have now missed two World Cups in a row.
To have a player operating at a high level in the Premier League and Champions League perhaps may help improve their fortunes, gaining valuable experience away from Serie A to take onto the international stage.
It’s time to get excited.
