Arsenal are said to have made a ‘lucrative offer’ for Newcastle United target Ivan Fresneda of Real Valladolid.

A report from German outfit, Bild believes that Borussia Dortmund would be keen on landing the Spanish youngster but fear that Ivan Fresneda already has a ‘lucrative offer’ on the table from Arsenal.

Newcastle have had Fresneda on their radar since last summer but have yet to make their move. The Magpies sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old right-back as recently as last month, so it’s clear that the interest is still there.

Arsenal seem to be Newcastle’s biggest opposition in the transfer market this summer as almost every player linked with a move to the North East seems to be tracked by Arsenal too. It looks that, in this case at least, Arsenal have stolen a march on Newcastle.

Real Valldolid are resigned to losing Ivan Fresneda

Real Valladolid seem to have made peace with the fact they will lose the Spanish youth international, with manager Pacheta saying in January (via Get Football News Spain): “He would be a fantastic acquisition, his numbers are fantastic and, although I want him to stay here, I understand the club and I am aligned with him in everything he does.” Also claiming that “he is 18 but does things that 30-year-old players do.”

Newcastle brought in Harrison Ashby from West Ham in January as a future right-back prospect, but clearly still maintain an interest in Fresneda for that position too. Both would be used as cover for Kieran Trippier who may find himself being rotated next season with Newcastle set to play an increased number of games.

Newcastle could be spoilt for choice at right-back if they land Fresneda

Ashby is yet to make his debut for Newcastle despite featuring on the bench a couple of times towards the end of the season, but he has been likened to Trippier in many ways and seems like the natural long-term replacement for the skipper.

That doesn’t rule out a move for Fresneda though, as Ashby will need back-up when Trippier hangs up his boots or moves on in a few years. That’s if Fresneda doesn’t become first-choice himself following a move.

However, that’s all speculation as it seems Newcastle will first need to see of the challenge from Arsenal and BVB before we can even think about who succeeds the England international as our go-to right back.
