January is going to be a month of incomings and outgoings for Newcastle United.
While all the talk is about who could join the Magpies, some players will most certainly have to leave.
We have a full 25-man squad which will need to be tweaked to accommodate new arrivals.
That means players will either need to be sold or loaned out temporarily. but who could leave St James’ Park next month?

Speaking on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has named one player who is ‘highly likely’ to leave in January.
What’s been said?
“One of the goalkeepers, probably Freddie Woodman, is highly likely to go out on loan if they can find the right club, because they’ve got four goalkeepers registered in the squad,” Waugh said.
“That’s unsustainable when you want to strengthen.”
Freddie Woodman should be loaned out by Newcastle
This is definitely the right thing to do. Newcastle need to let one of their goalkeepers go in January, and Woodman is the best candidate.

That’s nothing to do with his ability, however. Rather, he needs a temporary move to get first-team football.
Woodman started the season as Newcastle’s number one, with Martin Dubravka injured and Karl Darlow suffering from COVID. With Mark Gillespie also registered, this meant Newcastle had four goalkeepers in their 25-man squad – a ridiculous amount.
It thrust the youngster into the spotlight, and it didn’t go too well. Then again, he was hardly protected by the defenders in front of him.
Since Darlow and Dubravka have returned, Woodman has been out of the picture. He’s been left to stagnate due to circumstances beyond his control.
He needs a loan move to the Championship where hopefully he can recapture his form from last season where he thrived at Swansea.

Woodman is a talented young goalkeeper with a lot of potential – he could be a future Newcastle number one.
But he’s not ready at the moment, so needs to move to another club and get more minutes under his belt.
Newcastle need to reduce their squad, and loaning out Woodman is the simplest solution.
