Valencia are reportedly under pressure to raise money through player sales, with Newcastle United having recently been linked with Mouctar Diakhaby.

According to Deporte Valenciano, the Spanish outfit have some real financial problems right now.

Supposedly they need to raise £22 million through player sales to balance the books.

Newcastle were linked with central defender Diakhaby a few weeks ago.

AS stated that the Magpies were ready to make a move for the Frenchman.

He supposedly sees this transfer window as an opportunity to leave.

He assumes he will depart, the publication claims.

But it seems offers have not been forthcoming from anyone for Diakhaby as of yet.

Another report from Deportivo Valenciano at the start of the month claimed the 24-year-old was available for around £9 million.

Perhaps, with Valencia really needing to sell, he could ultimately end up being even cheaper than that.

An opportunity for Newcastle

The financial situation at Valencia means they are under pressure. Newcastle should therefore be looking to take advantage.

Diakhaby is the kind of player the Magpies should be looking to sign.

He is younger than Steve Bruce’s other defensive options.

But he isn’t too young, and has played in two top-five European leagues.

He is a commanding presence at the back, and can potentially bring that aerial dominance and set-piece threat.
