Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is apparently ‘open’ to joining Newcastle United.
The France international is into the final year of his contract at the Nou Camp.
Supposedly, talks over an extension for the player have stalled.
It is looking like Barca will have to cash in on the former Borussia Dortmund starlet so as not to lose him for free.
They may not even be able to do that if the player agrees to sign for another club on a pre-contract.
Barca are said to have made a proposal to sign him up for another two to three years.
But the player’s agent has failed to respond.
Goal report that Dembele is of interest to Newcastle – and the 24-year-old would be keen to make a move to St. James’ Park following the club’s takeover.
It would certainly be a statement signing.
Dembele remains a very big name, despite having never really truly convinced in Spain.
He has made 118 appearances for the Catalan giants, and scored 32 goals and provided 21 assists.
The star has struggled in terms of injuries.
Newcastle fans react as Dembele open to St. James’ move
After reacting to transfer links to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Toon supporters have now taken to social media to give their thoughts about a potential move for Dembele.
While plenty think he is a talented player, some do have concerns about the player’s record with injuries:
We would of laughed at this two weeks ago

Could be good Could end up like Rodriguez at Everton

This, if true is exciting news indeed. But we need someone like James Ward-Prowse taking our set pieces.

If he signs have him on a pay as you play deal. Don’t want another injury prone high profile and high wages striker, we’ve had too many of those over the years.

Would be a fantastic signing, only worry Is he gets injured quite a lot.

Has talent but he’s made of glass

Great player but injury prone. Given how long and often he is on the sidelines at Barca, I’d be worried he’d get injured using our makeshift facilities pic.twitter.com/1bCGe8qf6a
