Newcastle United need reinforcements in January – that much is obvious.
But what kind of reinforcements will they be able to attract? They have the money to afford the best players around, but remain a club in the midst of a Premier League relegation battle.
However, that apparently isn’t putting off one of Newcastle’s major targets.
It has previously been reported in Germany that the Magpies want to sign Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule. His contract is set to expire at the Allianz next summer, and is yet to agree an extension with the Bundesliga giants.

So could that open the door for a move to St James’ Park?
Niklas Sule reportedly open to Newcastle move
While previous reports in Germany seemed slightly farfetched, local outlet Newcastle World have backed up the Sule claims.
They report that the Magpies have already held talks with Sule’s representatives about a move to Newcastle in January.
And interestingly, they claim that the 26-year-old is open to a move to Tyneside despite Newcastle’s precarious position.
This could suggest one of two things…

Firstly, it could show that Newcastle do have major pulling power despite their current position in English football. If a player like Sule is willing to ditch one of Europe’s biggest clubs for a move to Newcastle, it speaks volumes about how big a side we have suddenly become. Money changes everything.
Alternatively, we could be being used here.
From a cynical perspective, perhaps Sule is using Newcastle as a negotiating ploy to get him a better deal at Bayern Munich. These are the muddy waters we suddenly find ourselves in.
But there’s no denying that Sule would be a sensational addition to our side. He’s a huge presence at the back, standing at 6ft5in.

He’s won it all in Germany, and would be a real coup for the new Newcastle United owners.
But one other issue. Why are the club pressing ahead with transfer talks despite not having a director of football and only appointing a manager on Monday?
It does seem strange, but highlights the owners’ eagerness for Newcastle to climb the table. Or is it naivety?
