Joe Willock’s next move is the biggest story of Newcastle’s transfer window. There’s no getting away from it.

The latest installment in the saga which has dominated the Magpies’ summer comes from 90Min.

They claim that Newcastle have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign Willock for £25 million, including add-ons.

The report says the Gunners would have been open to another loan with an option to buy.

But Newcastle didn’t want to take that up because they’ve got other targets in mind for their loan slots and want Willock as well.

What’s the problem?

The only thing that’s left to sort out is whether Willock wants to come or not. The report says he remains undecided.

Newcastle are apparently growing impatient because they feel they have met all of Willock’s demands, but remain confident of signing him.

Willock still needs more convincing, and the longer it takes him to make a decision, the more concern will grow among the fans that he won’t return.

You never want to have to work too hard to convince a player to sign for you.

Ideally, they’d be champing at the bit to come to Newcastle. Especially when Willock has already played for the club and shone.

It’s hard to overstate the potential impact of Willock’s decision. If he comes, the fans will at least have something to look forward to following another dispiriting summer.

If he doesn’t, after a protracted chase and Newcastle showing willingness to pay so much money for him, it will be another punch to the gut and Steve Bruce will need to find another number 10 for his 3-5-2.
