Report: Newcastle could send Jay Turner-Cooke out on loan in January

Jay Turner-Cooke could reportedly leave Newcastle United on loan during the January transfer window.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the Magpies are considering whether or not to send him out on a temporary deal for the second half of the season.

The report adds that Newcastle have been made aware of interest in the 18-year-old, with loan co-ordinator Shola Ameobi in contact with various clubs about the youngster heading into January.

The Daily Mail state that the club are now discussing whether or not Turner-Cooke would benefit from a short-term exit next month, with Eddie Howe set to have the final say.

Turner-Cooke has been working closely with Howe in recent weeks. He was part of the trip to Saudi Arabia, and made an appearance off the bench in the 5-0 win over Al Hilal. This was his first ever appearance for the Newcastle first-team.

Then he was involved in the 2-1 home victory over Rayo Vallecano, making his first senior appearance at St James’ Park.

Next on the agenda could be a first competitive appearance, which could come out on loan in 2023.

Loan move is a good idea for Turner-Cooke and Newcastle

As the January transfer window approaches, there is a lot of talk regarding comings and goings at Newcastle.

While the fans are focussing on the arrivals, there could be plenty of departures next month. Howe has various youngsters in his ranks who need first-team exposure, as they aim to follow in the footsteps of Elliot Anderson.

Turner-Cooke is no different, and he could reportedly follow Joe White and Dylan Stephenson out the door next month. They have also been linked with loan moves away from St James’ Park.

Born in South Shields, Turner-Cooke has had an interesting start to his career. He was with rivals Sunderland, where his dad worked as the kitman. But he was controversially let go by the Black Cats, leading to Turner-Cooke asking to leave.

That led him to Newcastle, where he is very close to making the step up to senior football. But he needs minutes down in the lower leagues.

He has impressed at youth level, and has improved a lot since his move from Sunderland to Newcastle. That is according to Under-21s boss Elliott Dickman, who described Turner-Cooke as ‘outstanding‘ after a 2-2 draw with Norwich last year.

A loan move would be perfect for Turner-Cooke in January – it is just a case of finding the right club. He is a creative midfielder with an eye for goal, and needs to join a team that can facilitate his ability to make a difference in the final third.

Turner-Cooke has a bright future, but will struggle for minutes at Newcastle this season. A loan move will be hugely beneficial, but it is up to Ameobi and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth to ensure he joins the right club.
