Newcastle United could now sign Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech, instead of Everton attacker Anthony Gordon.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim the Morocco international is an appealing alternative to the 21-year-old Toffee.
As per the report, the Magpies will end their interest in Gordon if the Merseyside club fail to lower their £60m valuation.
Eddie Howe’s side are confident they have beaten Chelsea to the signing, and they believe a deal is close.
However, if Everton fail to budge on their price-tag, Newcastle will instead pursue Ziyech – who is set to be pushed out of Graham Potter’s first-team plans.
Newcastle could sign Ziyech instead of Gordon
At 21-years-old, Gordon is the Magpies’ preference. They see him as a player who can storm the Premier League for the next decade.
However, after a disappointing season thus far, Newcastle retain their view the youngster isn’t worth the quoted £60m.
Instead, the 29-year-old Chelsea man could be the one who they decide to sign.
Having started just four games in the English top-flight this term, Ziyech has been underutilised by the Blues.
Although he has made his way into the starting XI recently, this is down to various injuries, so the attacker remains surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
