Report: Newcastle and Villa are the most interested clubs in Lee Kang-in

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are two of the clubs that hold the strongest interest in signing Lee Kang-in.

That is according to Marca in Spain, who claim that four clubs are leading the chase to sign the 21-year-old from Real Mallorca.

Newcastle and Villa are the two Premier League clubs that are keen, while Championship leaders Burnley also hold an interest. Elsewhere, Marca believe that Feyenoord are interested in bringing Kang-in to the Netherlands.

Kang-in currently plays in La Liga for Real Mallorca, where he has two goals and four assists to his name this season. He also appeared at the World Cup with South Korea, who made it through their group before being knocked out by Brazil in the round of 16.

Now a Premier League move could be on the horizon for Kang-in, with scouts from England heading to Spain to watch the attacking midfielder back in November.

Marca believe Newcastle are in the mix to sign him, and he could be an affordable option this month.

Newcastle interested in Lee Kang-in for £15million

According to Marca, Kang-in is available in January for £15million. They believe that is within Newcastle’s price range due to their Saudi owners, while they also state that the fee should not be a problem for Aston Villa.

The Magpies are in the market for a wide forward this month, and Kang-in is someone who can operate on the flanks. The 21-year-old predominantly plays behind the striker for Mallorca, but has been deployed on the right and left wing.

He is an incredibly gifted footballer, and was described as an ‘outstanding talent‘ back in 2018 by Valencia academy Luis Vicente Mateo, which is who Kang-in used to play for.

Now it is 2023 and he is with Mallorca, but Marca believe he could soon be on the move. They believe that the interest in him is so strong that he could be sold during the January transfer window.

In truth, a move to Newcastle would come as a real shock. This does not feel like the most reputable source, while other outlets have not mentioned the Magpies possibly moving for Kang-in.

While he is affordable at £15million and has a lot of talent, Marca’s claim that Newcastle are one of the clubs most interested in Kang-in feels unlikely – especially given it wasn’t long ago that they were claiming Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way to St James’ Park.
