Matty Longstaff is reportedly set to sign a new deal with Newcastle United.
According to the Chronicle, the midfielder is set to leave the club on loan within the next two weeks, but is primed to pen a one-year extension first.

The youngster has been told his best option would be to head out on a temporary basis.
The signing of Joe Willock likely makes regular minutes at St. James’ Park harder to come by.
He has been offered to a host of clubs already. Fresh interest has arrived in the form of Nottingham Forest and Blackpool.
There is also interest from the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United.

Newcastle want to protect Matty’s value. Currently, he’d be able to leave the club for a nominal fee next year.
The club did the same thing with Freddie Woodman.
Longstaff new deal is good news
Matty effectively lost a year of his career last season.
He made just five appearances in 2020/21, and struggled to kick on after his memorable debut against Manchester United the season before.

Given his lack of game time last term, Newcastle would arguably be lucky if he did agree to a one-year extension.
He’d be within his rights to try and leave the club. So news of him being set to sign an extension is a real positive.
