Inter Milan centre-back and Newcastle target Milan Skriniar will make a decision over his future this week, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Serie A giants are reportedly set to submit their final contract proposal to the 27-year-old over the coming days, with the player’s current deal expiring at the end of the season.

Simone Inzaghi’s side hope to complete an extension before the January transfer window, when the Slovakia international can negotiate pre-contracts with clubs outside of Italy.

According to CalciomercatoWeb, the Magpies are keen to sign the defender in January on a cut-price deal.

However, Corriere dello Sport claim Inter are confident of retaining the player.

This stance makes sense; as per L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain made a £70m offer for Skriniar over the summer, but a deal failed to come to fruition.

Newcastle will learn Skriniar’s contract decision this week

Although it remains a possibility that the Toon will sign the defender on a pre-contract ahead of the summer, Eddie Howe really wants to bring him to St James’ Park in January.

This would be an immense signing for Newcastle, given Skriniar’s status in world football.

The Slovakian has played 42 matches in the Champions League and Europa League throughout his career.

He has won every Italian trophy available with Inter, and has also been awarded Slovakia’s Footballer of the Year award on two occasions.

Hailed by former teammate Adam Zilak as an ‘incredible defender’, it is no surprise to see the Tyneside outfit interested in securing his services.

Therefore, hopefully it is good news for Howe when he hears back about Skriniar’s decision later this week.
