Report hands Newcastle a major boost in bid to sign Andrey Santos ahead of Barcelona

Newcastle United are reportedly determined to sign 18-year-old midfielder Andrey Santos in 2023.

That is according to Sport in Spain, who have provided an intriguing update on the race to sign one of Brazilian football’s most exciting teenagers.

Santos is a man in demand, having excelled for Vasco da Gama. He has received praise from former Brazil international Juninho Pernambucano, who believes that Santos will be better than he ever was.

That is very high praise, and explains why the likes of Newcastle, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with signing him.

The Magpies are looking to snap up some of South America’s best young talents, with Dan Ashworth seemingly keen to bring Santos to St James’ Park.

A deal will be difficult, but it has previously been claimed that Newcastle are confident they can get their man. And Sport’s update will certainly encourage the Toon recruitment team.

Good news for Newcastle as Barca don’t plan to sign Andrey Santos in January

Sport claim that while Barcelona are interested in Santos, they will delay any move for him until the summer of next year. That is so they can invest more money into the deal.

The report from Spain adds that Newcastle are determined to sign the youngster and that they will ‘bid hard’ to bring him to St James’ Park.

With Newcastle very keen and Barcelona putting their interest on ice until the summer, Eddie Howe’s side have a real opportunity. They could possibly sign him in January without having to deal with the threat of Barcelona.

And Newcastle have an ace up their sleeve in the shape of Bruno Guimaraes.

Santos recently spoke to Brazilian outlet Lance and expressed his admiration for the Toon midfielder, calling him ‘phenomenal’.

Moving to Newcastle would give Santos the chance to play alongside his hero, and could give the Magpies an edge in this transfer tussle.

He is an incredibly exciting player, and there will be delight across Tyneside if he signs on the dotted line next year.
