Newcastle United may have to be smart when it comes to making signings in the January transfer window.
Indeed, money is reportedly going to remain tight when the New Year sales open, which will no doubt prove frustrating to Newcastle fans.
Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean Eddie Howe cannot strengthen his squad. The club, after all, could sell players without having to let any of their biggest names go, so all hope is not yet lost.
Newcastle, of course, could also look to the loan market at a push. It’s not really something the club have done in the PIF era but, frankly, perhaps it’ll soon get to a point where it has to be explored.
They cannot go on expecting Howe to work miracles without further investment. Clearly, developing someone else’s player on loan is not ideal but beggars cannot be choosers.
With that in mind, it is perhaps worth watching developments at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid star now agitated about his future amid transfer links with Newcastle
Madrid’s Turkish forward Arda Guler has been linked with a move to St James’ Park.

In fact, speaking to Geordie Boot Boys last month, TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey revealed the club were paying attention to the forward, who is suffering from a lack of game time in the Spanish capital this season.
Guler has started only four of Madrid’s 13 La Liga games thus far and Miguel Delaney of The Independent provided an interesting update on his future.
Delaney reveals in his Reading the Game newsletter that Guler is “agitated” about his future with Los Blancos after becoming increasingly upset about his bit-part role.
Though the European champions do not want to lose him, it’s said that there are “possibilities” about a loan move and that a “few big clubs” are starting to take a look…
Newcastle have already tried to sign Arda Guler
Able to operate centrally and on the right wing too, Guler is certainly a logical target in a position the club reportedly want to strengthen.
A hugely exciting talent with so much of his career ahead of him, it’s no surprise that Newcastle might still be interested in the 19-year-old.
They did, after all, reportedly try and sign the attacker during his Fenerbahce days back in 2023.
