Newcastle United want to sign Kieran Tierney this summer, and Barry Ferguson believes the defender could be available for a bargain fee.
Tierney‘s Arsenal future is currently in doubt after being dropped from the starting lineup, and it has led to speculation that he could move to Newcastle.
Eddie Howe is a huge fan of the 25-year-old, who is the Magpies’ top left-back target heading into the summer transfer window. We could be in luck too, with reports claiming that Tierney could be tempted to move to the North East.
His future appears to lie away from the Emirates, and former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson believes that top Premier League teams should be all over him at the price that is being reported.

The 45-year-old has spoke about Tierney’s future on Go Radio, as quoted by Glasgow Live. He expects the left-back to be on the move this summer.
“He’ll be frustrated and he’ll be desperate to go and get minutes, which he’s not getting at Arsenal. I think he’s that type of character,” Ferguson said.
“I don’t know him personally but judging him by watching him and listening to him, come the summer I don’t think he’ll be at Arsenal.
“And if I’m a top six English Premier League team, I’d be in for him in a heartbeat.
“If he becomes available, and for the price they’re talking about as well, at £30million – if you look at some of the full-backs that have moved in England for double that, I think it’s an absolute snip.”
Potential bargain for Newcastle
It seems crazy to suggest that £30million would be a bargain, but that is the current financial state of football.
A fee of £30million would see Arsenal make a slight profit on Tierney, having bought him for £25million from Celtic in 2019.
Since then he has impressed for the Gunners – when he has been fit. He has been hindered by injury at times, which will be a concern for Toon fans if he joins Howe’s side.
The Scotland international has now been replaced by Oleksandr Zinchenko, but is still a top class player. That is why Ferguson believes that the Premier League’s elite should be swooping in.
However, most of them don’t need a new left-back. Manchester United have Luke Shaw, Liverpool have Andy Robertson, Chelsea have Ben Chilwell and Tottenham have a deep-rooted dislike of Arsenal. Manchester City are the only major club who could probably benefit from a new left-back.
Therefore, the door could be wide open for Newcastle to swoop in and grab themselves a bargain – in the eyes of Ferguson.
