Newcastle United have their January transfer plans in place but a new revelation could change them.

It’ll be sporting director Paul Mitchell’s first full transfer window with Newcastle since joining in July and he’ll want to hit the ground running after the failings in the summer.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Marc Guehi was heavily reported on all throughout the transfer window with offers up to £70million rejected by Crystal Palace.

He stayed at the Eagles but things haven’t gone well for him so far with Palace sitting 16th in the Premier League just three points off the relegation zone.

Now, a recent report shows that there’s a cheaper option for Guehi who will be available in the January transfer window.

Newcastle target Milan Skriniar available in January

Skriniar hasn’t been getting the game time he deserves at PSG and he’s not happy about it.

The Slovakian has played just five games for the Parisians this season and now, according to CaughtOffside, Skriniar will be available in January.

The report suggests that PSG are willing to listen to offers of around £29m for the Skriniar who featured with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka at EURO 2024 in the summer.

The 29-year-old has been linked to Newcastle previously but Toon boss Eddie Howe wants a striker, winger and goalkeeper in January so there may not be space to sign a centre-back.

Howe and Mitchell need to toss up the returns of Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles to the side as well. The pair have been missing since March with ACL injuries.

A move would depend on the futures of Lascelles and Fabian Schar who are both out of contract in the summer. Lascelles is wanted by Wolves who could make a move for the 31-year-old in January.

Skriniar isn’t short of admirers with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Real Madrid reportedly interested in the Slovakian.

Skriniar has history with Newcastle

Moving to Newcastle would mean Skriniar would return to Tyneside for the first time since October 2023.

Fans will never forget that in a hurry but Skriniar happened to play a part in that. The 29-year-old was part of the PSG squad that faced Newcastle in the historic 4-1 win at St James’ Park.

Skriniar also played a full 90 minutes in the reverse fixture in Paris which saw PSG equalise in the last minute through a Kylian Mbappe penalty.

Howe and Co will hope Skriniar remembers the atmosphere from that game and use it as leverage to try and win him over and bring him to the North East and with PSR a lingering issue for Newcastle it’s a cheaper option than someone like Guehi albeit with a four-year age difference.
