There are few players in world football who would be deemed as untouchable by their club but Bruno Guimaraes is on that list for Newcastle United.
While it’s fair to say that Bruno Guimaraes hasn’t had the best of starts to this season – but let’s be honest, who has? He’s still one of the most important figures at the club right now, which is why other clubs have been sniffing. AS.com has now reported that Newcastle turned down a late bid this summer.
Signing from Lyon in January 2022 as part of Eddie Howe‘s impressive first window which also saw the arrival of Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn who also established themselves as important first-team players, Bruno won the fans over instantly.
Bruno Guimaraes was the subject of a late £100m bid from a PL rival
The Brazilian released an announcement video which made mention of the fact that he rejected Arsenal to join the Magpies and the bond was cemented. He then went on to be a revelation on the pitch helping Newcastle avoid relegation and then the following season catapulting the side to the Champions League.
Even though the 25-year-old is slightly off the pace right now there would be metaphorical riots if there was even a thought that he would leave the club.

However, Premier League rivals Liverpool thought they had a chance with AS reporting that the Reds made a £100million bid towards the end of the summer transfer window which was unceremoniously dismissed by Newcastle.
If Moises Caicedo is worth £115m then how much is Bruno worth?
We already knew that Real Madrid had been looking at Bruno, but the idea of him going to a fellow Premier League side, let alone a direct rival is surely completely out of the question.

Even though Newcastle only paid around £40million for his services, some of the transfer fees we’ve seen this summer mean that £100million is almost insulting. If Moises Caicedo, a player who has had one good season in the Premier League is worth £115million, then Bruno Guimaraes who has had an extra half a season in the English top-flight plus European experience surely has to be worth more than that.
Thankfully it sounds like Liverpool pretty much got laughed at with their approach. The thought of having to see Bruno Guimaraes play under Jurgen Klopp has made me feel quite ill.
