PL side have now just had £15m bid rejected for ‘phenomenal’ Newcastle target – Romano

Newcastle United were one of several clubs said to be keeping tabs on Bristol City youngster Alex Scott last season, and The Robins have already rebuffed a Premier League approach.

Alex Scott had an extremely impressive season at Bristol City last campaign, playing 42 games for Nigel Pearson’s side, scoring once and providing five assists. He scooped the Championship‘s Young Player of the Year award in April too.

Deemed ‘phenomenal‘ by his former teammate, Dan Bentley, 19-year-old Scott is said to have the world at his feet, which is why Nigel Pearson has said that if he is to move, it won’t be a cheap deal.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth have seen a £15million bid for Alex Scott rejected by Bristol City. That’s £10million less than Pearson claims he’s worth, although The Sun have claimed that £20million could seal the deal.

Newcastle’s name hasn’t been brought up alongside Scott since May, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not still on their radar. If we’ve learned anything lately it’s that the less you hear about a deal, the more likely it is to get done.

If Bournemouth have gone in at £15million for Scott and been rejected then that gives Newcastle a good idea of where to start if they are to make a bid.

Of course this all depends on the actual state of Newcastle’s finances with there being a lot of talk lately that the arrival of Harvey Barnes could see Eddie Howe‘s funds depleted for this summer.

That being said, with Scott being a young player, Newcastle may be more inclined to spend that money on him as they should see a good return on their investment in the future, whether that be in a potential future sale, or be it from his on-field achievements somewhere down the line.

I genuinely hope Newcastle haven’t walked away from Alex Scott and will fight Bournemouth for his signature. The kid seems destined for greatness and that’s the kind of player we want to develop at Newcastle.

It’s going to be interesting to see now if any other Premier League clubs try their hand and indeed foreign clubs as Inter Milan were said to be keen on Scott too.
