Pep Guardiola may have made life easier for Newcastle United if they really want to sign one of his Manchester City players.
Newcastle United have actually been linked with two Manchester City stars this summer. Indeed, Newcastle are reportedly looking at signing Jack Grealish, who has been tipped to leave Guardiola’s side on loan.
Grealish, however, isn’t the only one. James McAtee has also been touted as a target.
It has been claimed that Newcastle want to sign McAtee from Man City, with the midfielder struggling for game time under Guardiola.
Guardiola has spoken positively of McAtee but what happened in the FA Cup final could have opened the door to Newcastle, as well as any other potential suitors.

James McAtee set for ‘bitter end’ at Man City
City were needing a goal against Crystal Palace in the showpiece event at Wembley. Omar Marmoush had missed a penalty after Eberechi Eze opened the scoring for the Eagles, who went on to win the game and lift a major trophy for the first time in their history.
Naturally, Guardiola threw caution to the wind as the full-time whistle approached. McAtee, however, was not even included on the bench and the City boss instead surprisingly gave Claudio Echeverri his debut in the closing stages.
According to Sam Lee of The Athletic, McAtee was always “likely to leave” but the snub from the FA Cup final squad feels like an “especially bitter end” to his time at the club.
Newcastle United’s summer transfer budget explained
Newcastle are confident of making new signings this summer, having had to keep their powder dry in recent transfer windows due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
In fact, Newcastle could have as much as £150million to spend on new players this summer, although it remains to be seen what happens if they do not qualify for the Champions League.
As a young, talented player with a lot of potential, McAtee would certainly fit the mould of signings Newcastle have made during the PIF era.
