Things are going very well for Newcastle United right now.

Eddie Howe appears to have struck the right balance in his Newcastle side, who have now shot up to fifth in the Premier League table as a result of the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Having booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-final too, it seems the Newcastle United manager has settled the ship once more.

What the club could do without, however, is a big player leaving in January.

Now, it’s difficult to imagine Newcastle allowing any of their leading players to leave midseason without having received a huge amount of money.

Still, some of the elite stars at St James’ Park are said to have been unsettled at times this season and the transfer links are likely to continue.

Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with a move to Manchester City and manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed their stance on potential incomings.

The Premier League champions, of course, are in a state of crisis right now.

Guardiola has never encountered such a difficult run of results across his glittering career and has confirmed City will “try” and sign players in January.

“We want players for the next three, four, five years,” he told the club’s official website.

“This is not easy to do it. We are going to try because we cannot sustain for a long time to have so many important players injured.”

Interestingly, noted football journalist Guillem Balague recently confirmed on BBC Sport that a holding midfielder was one of City’s priorities.

It would surely take a huge offer for Newcastle to consider selling Guimaraes in January and the player himself has talked about how much he enjoys life at the club.

Still, Guardiola is said to “love” the midfielder’s style of play and reportedly insisted he was on a short list City have drawn up to potentially bring in cover and competition for Rodri.

Hopefully, City can be warded off if they do attempt to make a move…
