Sule interested in Newcastle project, journalist claims

Niklas Sule is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, and is interested in Newcastle United.

It follows a report last month that claimed the Magpies were keen.

The Germany international is seemingly looking to run down his contract with the Bavarian giants.

Sule has been with Bayern since the summer of 2017, joining from Hoffenheim.

He has won the league every season since he joined, and also won the Champions League in 2020.

Christian Falk, the head of sport at Bild, has reported that there have been talks between Sule’s management and Newcastle a few weeks ago.

He is apparently interested in the project, following the takeover last month.

Newcastle, of course, are crying out for defensive additions.

Only Norwich City have conceded more goals so far in the Premier League.

The team have been hugely vulnerable at the back, with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher recently suggesting the backline was Championship standard.

Sule interested, and Newcastle shouldn’t wait

Sule is supposedly set to leave when he becomes a free agent.

But Newcastle really shouldn’t wait until the summer to get him in on a free. It could be too late by then.

They need him in in January, along with one of two others.

Since his contract is winding down, Bayern would have to sell Sule on the cheap in January.

Not that Newcastle wouldn’t be able to afford him even if he had a lengthy contract.

The situation is bleak right now, and if Sule really is interested in the Newcastle project, then officials must make it happen in the next window.
