Newcastle willing to pay £60m for ‘incredible’ 23-year-old, he must decide

Newcastle United are reportedly willing to increase their offer for Sandro Tonali, as they look to complete a deal for the AC Milan superstar.

Tonali is now the Magpies’ top midfield target, after a move for Nicolo Barella fell flat. However, it could be argued that Tonali is a better option as he is three years younger.

Newcastle made their opening offer for the 23-year-old on Tuesday night, proposing a deal worth £43million. However, that was not enough, with the Serie A side looking to receive more than £70million.

Now a new report suggests that a compromise could be reached.

Newcastle prepared to pay more for Sandro Tonali

According to Sport Mediaset in Italy, Newcastle are now prepared to pay £60million for Tonali to bring him to St James’ Park.

The report states that AC Milan have now ‘set off the white smoke’ and will turn to Tonali for a decision on whether he wants to stay with the Italian side or take his talents to the Premier League.

Let’s hope it is the latter, and that would result in a major pay rise. The ‘incredible‘ Tonali could double his wages on Tyneside, and the report from Sport Mediaset states that the Magpies are prepared to pay him £6million-a-year. That would work out at around £115,000-a-week.

If this story is true and Newcastle really are happy to pay £60million for Tonali, that would make him the club’s second most expensive signing ever. He would sit just behind Alexander Isak, who cost £63million last summer.

You would imagine that the £60million would include add-ons, although that is not specified in the report.

This transfer rumour appears to be very different to the Barella one. That was shot down early, but this is moving fast, and all the noises appear to suggest that a deal is there to be done.

Hopefully that is the case, as Tonali could be the marquee name to kick off a very exciting summer transfer window for Eddie Howe.
