Newcastle United continue in their quest to land Leicester City and England playmaker James Maddison but Gabby Agbonlahor has now urged our Premier League rivals to beat us to the punch.
Newcastle‘s interest in James Maddison is as widely known as the story of Jesus Christ at this point, but as the Magpies have yet to secure a deal with either Leicester or the player himself, there’s still every chance we could ultimately be disappointed come summer.
Now Gabby Agbonlahor as urged Tottenham to join the race for the £60million-rated midfielder. Live on TalkSPORT this morning, Agbonlahor said: “If I am Spurs, then I am getting a Maddison deal done behind-the-scenes now.
“So, in the summer, Maddison comes in because Newcastle will come out of nowhere and say ‘alright then, we aren’t wasting no time’.
“Newcastle will end up getting Maddison. Spurs need a ten.”

Newcastle tried to land ‘outstanding‘ Maddison last summer but refused to acquiesce to Leicester City’s demands offering around £10million less than the £60million the Foxes were asking.
Maddison stayed at Leicester and has gone on to have another fantastic season, earning himself his first start for England in the recent Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine.
His form has now attracted interest from elsewhere with Manchester City said to be monitoring the 26-year-old. Tottenham haven’t openly declared an interest in Maddison, but now Agbonlahor has joined former Magpie Jermaine Jenas in urging the London club to look at a move for the midfielder.
For me, this is the deal we absolutely have to get done this summer. Maddison is my own personal most-wanted realistic target for the Magpies. I think he will take us to the next level instantly, then we can continue to build the squad to bolster our Champions League hopes once he’s secured.
Leicester have been woeful this season but Maddison has still managed to come up with nine goals and six assists in his 22 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes.
Imagine what he could do in our buoyant Newcastle team under Eddie Howe‘s guidance and with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak to play alongside.
I’ve had my fingers crossed for this move for so long I’m going to need surgery to repair my hands when this saga finally ends.
