Newcastle United’s Premier League rivals suddenly have a serious ‘problem’, Eddie Howe won’t help them

Newcastle United are not going to be doing Crystal Palace any favours between now and 1st September.

With three weeks to go before the transfer window closes, both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have plenty of business to do.

Newcastle want three signings at least, while Palace need depth as they prepare to compete in Europe.

There is also the added complication of Marc Guehi’s future, with the centre-back in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park. Guehi has been a long-term transfer target for Eddie Howe, and now Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted that he may need to sell the 25-year-old.

Steve Parish admits Marc Guehi situation is a ‘problem’

As it stands, Guehi will become a free agent next summer.

During an interview with BBC Sport, Parish has revealed that it would be a ‘problem’ if Guehi left for nothing next summer, which is why he is ready to cash in on the defender.

“We’d have to do that, of course,” he said.

“For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately.

“Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn’t afford to lose both.

“We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation.

“We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Newcastle United are signing a Marc Guehi alternative

Palace need a buyer to solve their Guehi ‘problem’, but it will not be Newcastle.

For a long time, it felt as if Guehi was going to arrive at St James’ Park. Newcastle even offered £70million last summer, but it was not enough for the Eagles to accept.

Fast forward 12 months and Palace are never going to get that kind of money for Guehi, while Newcastle are no longer at the table for him.

That is because Newcastle are buying Malick Thiaw from AC Milan instead. He is on Tyneside for a medical ahead of his £34million transfer.

All the while, it has been claimed that Liverpool are favourites to land Guehi. They could be the solution to Parish’s ‘problem’, as Eddie Howe prepares for what will hopefully be a bright future with Thiaw wearing black and white.
