Newcastle United are no strangers to Marc Guehi as they continue their search for a new centre-back.
With less than four weeks to go before the transfer window closes, Newcastle want three signings as a minimum.
The plan is for one of those to be a centre-back, with Eddie Howe searching for Fabian Schar’s long-term successor at St James’ Park.
It was reported on Wednesday that Newcastle’s Malick Thiaw bid was rejected. The Magpies proposed a deal worth £26million, but AC Milan want to keep him at the San Siro.

Newcastle United are unwilling to pay Marc Guehi’s asking price
Thiaw was a target in 2024, but Marc Guehi was the player who Howe really wanted to sign.
In the end, neither player arrived at St James’ Park. That could be the case in 2025 too, as transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Guehi is not expected to join the Magpies.
“I don’t see Newcastle coming back in for him,” he said.
“No one is willing to meet Crystal Palace’s asking price. They are looking for more than £40million.
“I don’t think Guehi is pushing to leave either, from what I am told.”
Newcastle United could get Marc Guehi on a free transfer
Throughout the Guehi to Newcastle United saga, money has been the issue. They have not been able to agree a fee with Crystal Palace.
That obstacle could be out of the way next year, with the centre-back in the final year of his contract.
As it stands, it looks like he will run his deal down and leave Crystal Palace as a free agent next summer.
That would hand Newcastle United an opportunity to do an incredible deal and sign Guehi on a free transfer. In the world of PSR, that would be massively appealing.
However, there would be an incredible list of clubs chasing Guehi’s signature if he was available on a free, so it could actually be even harder for Newcastle to sign him.
