Newcastle United willing to sell Harvey Barnes to Aston Villa on one condition

Harvey Barnes has starred for Newcastle United this season but is again being linked with a move away.

Barnes has scored nine goals while registering five assists for Newcastle United this season. Indeed, the level of his form has kept Anthony Gordon out of Eddie Howe’s team, even after the England winger recovered from a thigh injury.

Newcastle paid £39million to sign Barnes from Leicester in the summer of 2023. He’s since scored 14 goals in 60 games for the club, while racking up eight assists. Barnes was excellent for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final too and has done little to suggest he needs dropping any time soon.

Still, the 27-year-old has been linked with a move away. Aston Villa are interested in Barnes, although it seems the Newcastle United manager does not want to sell him.

Newcastle United’s stance on Harvey Barnes transfer exit

According to The Chronicle, there’s only one thing that could tempt the club into selling Barnes – particularly to a Premier League and Champions League rival.

It’s said that Howe sees absolutely no point in selling the forward unless the club can realistically hope to make a big profit on him.

Having paid almost £40million to sign him in the first place, that would surely mean it’d take a significant fee to take him away from St James’ Park.

Newcastle United interested in Jacob Ramsey amid Harvey Barnes to Aston Villa claim

Howe has confirmed Newcastle will look to use the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to their advantage this summer, having been stung by them last year.

The club had to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh in order to meet their obligations under the rules, which do not allow clubs to lose more than £105million over a three-year accounting period.

While it must be stressed that they are unconfirmed, there are suggestions Villa need to make a significant player sale by June 30 due to the PSR rules.

As such, Newcastle are reportedly interested in Villa star Jacob Ramsey.

Whether it’s with Barnes or Ramsey, perhaps Newcastle and Villa will be involved in some player trading this summer.
