Newcastle United have yet to make a major signing in the summer transfer window, but could soon welcome Anthony Elanga to the club.

The Magpies are being active in the transfer market, but fans are still patiently waiting for that first major signing to improve Eddie Howe’s starting XI.

It has been almost two years since Newcastle United made a signing that improved their starting line-up, but that could all change very soon if talks for Anthony Elanga go well.

Things have gone a bit silent on Newcastle’s chase for James Trafford, but the same cannot be said for Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, their current top target.

Without further ado, here are the latest transfer news and rumours regarding Newcastle.

Newcastle United to give Giorgio Scalvini a “stringent” medical

Scalvini is Newcastle’s top target and is valued at around £30million. However, the Magpies may be forced to pay as much as £40m for the 21-year-old this summer.

The Italian made just eight appearances in Serie A last season as he continued to struggle with injuries. He had just returned from an ACL injury, only to miss the majority of the campaign due to a nasty shoulder issue.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle staff are well aware of Scalvini’s injury history and are ready to put him through the wringer to ensure his problems are a thing of the past.

Despite their plans, Newcastle are confident Scalvini’s injury troubles are behind him.

Newcastle United miss out on Jonathan David to Juventus

In January, reports suggested that Newcastle were seriously interested in signing Jonathan David. The striker, playing for Lille at the time, was at the end of his deal and had attracted attention from many clubs around Europe.

Newcastle went to watch David in France in the latter stages of the season, with Howe clearly eager to have him partner Alexander Isak in attack. However, that will not be the case as it has been confirmed that David has signed for Juventus.

The Canadian signed a five-year deal with the Old Lady after his release from Lille. In a move no Newcastle fan could have predicted, David will play with former Toon defender Lloyd Kelly.

Ben Foster tells Harvey Elliott not to leave Liverpool

Geordie Boot Boys were recently informed that Newcastle are big admirers of Harvey Elliott. The Liverpool midfielder struggled to find a place in Arne Slot’s starting XI last season, making just two starts in the Premier League.

Reports have stated that Elliott will cost Newcastle £50m this summer, a fee they should be able to afford but perhaps one they will look to spend elsewhere before coming to him.

With his future hanging in the balance, former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has urged Elliott not to leave Liverpool this summer.

On Fozcast, Foster said: “He’s in such a difficult position because he’s still really young.

“He’s obviously unbelievably talented and I feel like we’re only just starting to see the shoots of promise of what he can actually start doing.

“He scored that goal against PSG last season. I think that was his big moment for him last year and in that season. But the way he’s ripped it up for the 21s the end of this season has been phenomenal.

“So I don’t think Liverpool would want to let him go. I don’t see why they would want to let him go. I think he’s going to play more games this season than he probably ever has done. So I think the best (option) for him is to stay at Liverpool with all those world-class players, keep learning, keep progressing.”
