There has not been much action in the January transfer window just yet but it’s shaping up to be an interesting one for Newcastle United.
PSR restrictions may yet restrict any business Newcastle United can do this month, with Eddie Howe already voicing his fears about coming close to a point deduction again.
But with Newcastle finishing December so strongly, there is the opportunity to inject some extra quality into the squad to ensure that fine form continues into 2025.
A new striker, winger and goalkeeper are the positions Newcastle appear to be looking to strengthen in the January transfer window and here are all the latest news and rumours.
Eddie Howe asked about Jack Grealish links

Jack Grealish’s future at Manchester City has come into doubt recently and Newcastle have been one of the clubs linked with the England forward.
However, when Howe was asked in his Friday press conference if Newcastle could afford such a signing in January, the manager dismissed the possibility completely.
He said: “Financially? [are we able to sign a player like that?]. I don’t believe currently we have.
“I think we are not really looking or concentrating on incomings we are focused on the massive games we have ahead. That is the only thing we are focused on.”
Newcastle linked with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford

Another Manchester-based player who could be heading for pastures new in 2025 is Marcus Rashford.
The Manchester United striker threw his Old Trafford career into question last month by admitting he thinks it’s time he takes on a new challenge.
Though Rashford has been in a rotten run of form for some time now, that hasn’t stopped several clubs from being linked with him.
According to elnacional, Newcastle have joined Bayern Munich and PSG in showing interest in Rashford and are ‘keeping an eye’ on him.
Chelsea in prime position to sign Marc Guehi

Newcastle wasted their summer trying and failing to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
Missing out on the England international hasn’t proven costly, though, as Fabian Schar and Dan Burn have struck up a resolute partnership in defence.
Yet, Howe would still like to bolster his options at the back and Newcastle have maintained an interest in Guehi.
GiveMeSport, however, are reporting Chelsea could be in ‘pole position’ to sign Guehi in January if they make an approach this month.
Guehi’s contract expires in the summer so Palace may be forced to sell him in January rather than lose him for nothing but PSR restrictions may rule Newcastle out of any bidding war.
