Newcastle United are hoping to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton, but there is a problem.
The 23-year-old has emerged as Newcastle United’s top target after the club decided that Bryan Mbeumo was too expensive.
It has been reported that Pedro is open to joining Newcastle, but there are suddenly fears that he could also have eyes on joining another Premier League club.
Chelsea want Pedro too, despite already signing Liam Delap for £30million and having Nicolas Jackson in their squad. It would appear that they want another forward, with Pedro on their list of targets.

Threat of Chelsea looms as Newcastle eye Joao Pedro transfer
It had been suggested that Pedro was more likely to join Newcastle than Chelsea, but it remains to be seen if that is still the case.
According to the Telegraph, there is a concern that Pedro is waiting for Chelsea to step up their interest in him amid a preference to live in London.
That could slow down the Magpies’ pursuit, despite Eddie Howe being keen for the club to move faster in the transfer market. It has been reported that Howe would like two signings before pre-season starts on 7th July.
Pedro could do to Newcastle what they did to him
This is not the first time that Newcastle have tried to sign Pedro. He was a target in 2022 during the first summer transfer window of Howe’s reign as manager.
Pedro wanted to join Newcastle, but a deal collapsed when the Magpies discovered that Alexander Isak was available. Despite being set to sign the Brazilian, Isak became Newcastle’s most expensive signing for £63million.
Three years later, that has proven to be the correct decision. While Pedro has performed well since then, Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in world football.
Now Newcastle United want Isak to play alongside Pedro, whereas the latter could have intentions of snubbing the Magpies’ interest in favour of Chelsea. If that does happen, it would prove to be another major blow for Howe.
