Newcastle United’s search for a striker may have taken another blow on Monday night.
In what has been a crazy summer, Newcastle have done some brilliant business. All they have left to do is resolve their striker situation, which is not as straightforward as it sounds.
Newcastle United need to buy one striker to replace Callum Wilson. They are also looking for a second, with Alexander Isak determined to leave the club.
Jorgen Strand Larsen is the latest player linked but that deal looks difficult, while the Yoane Wissa transfer is up in the air.
Newcastle have looked at Samu Aghehowa too, but any hope of signing the 21-year-old may have just been dashed.

Amid speculation over a move to St James’ Park, Samu was in action for Porto on Monday night.
He started up front for Porto, as they made it two wins out of two in the Primeira Liga with a 2-0 victory over Gil Vicente.
However, Samu’s evening was cut short.
The striker was forced off in the 30th minute with a muscle problem, with former Newcastle United player Luuk de Jong replacing him.
Samu left the pitch in tears, unable to hide his frustration at the injury he suffered. That may suggest it is a bad one, which could cast doubt over a late move to Newcastle.
How much Newcastle would have to pay for Samu Aghehowa
In truth, the main issue with Samu joining Newcastle United is his price tag.
It has been reported that Porto want £80million for Samu, which would make him Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.
It would eclipse the £63million spent on Alexander Isak in 2022, while a deal of that magnitude would free up the Sweden international to leave St James’ Park.
However, the Magpies are not going to spend that kind of money on Samu. While he has a lot of potential, he is relatively unproven. Signing him at that price to replace Isak would be a huge risk, and one that Newcastle are unlikely to take.
