Newcastle United have just made a ‘sensational’ decision, but it could be bad for Joelinton

Newcastle United are turning the tide in terms of transfers, having stepped up their business in a major way.

There was quite the gap between Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale arriving at St James’ Park, but now Newcastle United are making signings at an alarming rate for a club that was recently criticised for being too slow.

After Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw joined Newcastle. He was the third senior signing of the summer, with Thiaw costing £34.3million from AC Milan.

Signing number four could be their most impressive, with Jacob Ramsey set to join Newcastle from Aston Villa. The 24-year-old is costing £40million, as Newcastle exploit Aston Villa’s financial position.

Jacob Ramsey could replace Joelinton at Newcastle United

While Aston Villa will be sad that they are being forced to sell, Newcastle United should be delighted with their business.

That is the view of transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Ramsey’s move to St James’ Park.

“It’s a significant deal,” he said.

“It’s a great bit of business by Newcastle to get him at that price. He’s a sensational footballer and a massive upgrade for Newcastle.

“He could replace Joelinton in Eddie Howe’s midfield three, long-term.”

Given the fact that Ramsey is five years younger than Joelinton, time is very much on his side.

If he is going to get into the Newcastle United midfield, Joelinton is the player he will be targeting. That is because Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are simply undroppable.

Ramsey adds real depth to the Newcastle United squad, and is certainly an improvement on Sean Longstaff, who left to join Leeds earlier this summer.

Newcastle United enjoying a ‘solid window’ with one more on its way

Out of nowhere, Newcastle are suddenly having a very strong summer. It would be even more impressive if it was not for the Alexander Isak situation.

But there is more to come, with Newcastle close to signing Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

Bailey has admitted he is impressed with the Magpies’ business, after being told to expect a very busy week of transfer activity.

“Newcastle are now having a solid window, with Thiaw, Ramsdale and Elanga coming in as well as Ramsey,” he added.

“Newcastle did want to sign Wissa by this weekend, but that is not happening. I firmly believe that Wissa will be a Newcastle player soon.

“I was told earlier in the week that they would get three deals done this week, and they are not a million miles away with the Thiaw deal officially done and Ramsey arriving. For Wissa, Newcastle just need things to fall into place.”

It does appear that things are now falling into place, with Brentford set to sign Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth. That should clear the way for Wissa to move to St James’ Park.
