Newcastle United are prepared to sell several players this summer to make way for new arrivals.

The upcoming transfer window could be one of the most important in the club’s history as the Magpies aim to build on an impressive 2024/25 campaign, which saw them lift silverware and return to European football after a year off.

Newcastle United can still qualify for the Champions League and are considered favourites for a top-five finish by fans and pundits alike. Their chances of returning to Europe’s top competition will be boosted even more with a win against Brighton on Sunday.

Champions League football will be a ‘game-changer’ for Newcastle’s transfer window, that is the feeling amongst club staff who have been hard at work behind the scenes, working on putting together a list of transfer targets.

In the meantime, Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell have big decisions to make regarding the futures of several Newcastle players.

With the pair now working more hands-on together ahead of the transfer window, one summer exit is very close to being confirmed.

Newcastle United preparing for Lloyd Kelly’s move to Juventus

Defender Lloyd Kelly joined Newcastle on a free transfer last summer from Bournemouth but failed to make an impression on Tyneside, playing just a handful of games.

Most of Kelly’s appearances came from the bench due to the fantastic form of players like Dan Burn and Lewis Hall, who have been undroppable for most of the season.

In January, it was clear that the 26-year-old was going to struggle for minutes, so Newcastle loaned Kelly to Juventus with an obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer.

It was revealed that Juventus needed to qualify for Europe to buy Kelly, something they are now very close to achieving.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle chiefs all but confirmed that a deal to move Kelly to Turin permanently was done. With the report stating it is a matter of ‘when not if’.

Kelly could be leaving Newcastle after less than a year and just 10 Premier League appearances under his belt.

How Lloyd Kelly has fared on loan away from Newcastle United

From Kelly’s perspective, a permanent move to Juventus will be best for his career, given that Newcastle are eager to sign a new centre-back this summer.

Since joining on loan in January, Kelly has made 10 Serie A appearances, with most of them involving him in the starting XI.

Kelly played Champions League football for Juventus this season, a move no fan anticipated when he was brought to Tyneside last summer.

Italian media have blasted Kelly for his performances at Juventus, but things have gotten much better under Igor Tudor.

With Juventus on the cusp of qualifying for Europe, Newcastle fans should prepare to say their goodbyes to Kelly.
