Newcastle United youngster Ben Parkinson has confirmed he could leave the club in the January transfer window.

In January, Newcastle United cancelled a loan move for Parkinson because of injury

The Newcastle United academy graduate made his first-team debut in a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth in November 2023 but has not played for the senior side since. He was also on the bench for the 4-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Parkinson has trained with the Newcastle first-team in recent months after scoring nine goals in 15 appearances at youth level last season.

Another injury, however, has derailed his progress and he has not played at all this season. With the January transfer window around the corner, a loan move away could finally be on the cards for Parkinson

Ben Parkinson confirms he could leave Newcastle United

Speaking to The Athletic, the 20-year-old striker confirmed he was taking stock about his situation.

Naturally, the forward wants to play senior football and start to build his career away from youth football.

It’s unclear as to whether that will happen on Tyneside at any point but banking some crucial first team experience can only be a positive for his general development.

“It’s about playing now, building myself back up, assessing my options,” he said.

“It’s about trying to make my own way in football.”

Newcastle United have to give green light to Ben Parkinson exit

It’s imperative that Parkinson starts to play regularly.

Eddie Howe was impressed by Parkinson on his Premier League debut but a mix of competition for places and injury have seen his progress stall.

Though the Newcastle United manager has rotated this season, it’s almost impossible to imagine the 20-year-old getting a run in the first team at any point.

The Newcastle United squad is stacked and will only be strengthened when Yoane Wissa finally returns from injury.

Fellow academy graduate Sean Neave now has the spot Parkinson had a few seasons ago. With that in mind, a loan move away feels beneficial for all parties.
